Old Goa, Places to Visit

Old Goa is located just miles away from the capital city Panaji. In olden days, Old Goa is known as the Portuguese capital of Goa India and still today the remains are found with handful of impressive churches and cathedrals. They are also the largest in Asia though. Some of the olden structures have now become archeological museums, and that presents an interesting exhibition of Goa's history.


One of the top attractive structures in Old Goa is the Convent and Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, constructed in 1521. The structure was located just opposite to the famous Basilica of Bom Jesus, which holds the sealed leftovers of the body of Saint Frances Xavier, who an honored missionary and the patron saint of Old Goa. The body of Saint Frances Xavier is shown to the public within a gap of every 10 years. Last exhibition was happened in 2004 and the next exhibition should be conducted in 2014.
