Famous Days and its Historical Importance:

January 9: All years of January 9 is celebrated as Pravasi Bharatiya Day(Non-resident Indian Day). This day is celebrated in memory of Gandhiji's return to India from South Africa. It was from 2003 onwards, January 9th is celebrated as Pravasi Bharatiya Day.

January 12: National Youth Day. Swami Vivekanandan was born in January 12, 1863. The birth date of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated as National Youth Day from 1984 onwards.

January 28: Indian Republic Day. It was in 1950, January 26th, the indian constitution came into existence. In memory to this, January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day.

January 29: Indian Newspaper Day. The first daily, "The Bengal Gazette" was published in 1780, January 29. James Augustus Hicky is the publisher.It was early known in the name of Calcutta General Advertiser.

January 30: Martyrs' Day. Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead in 1948, January 30. In memory to this, January 30 is celebrated as Martyrs' Day.

February 19: Panchayat Day. It was celebrated in memory of 3rd National Panchayati Raj. Balwant Rai Mehta is considered as the founder of 3rd National Panchayati Raj.

February 21: World Mother Language Day. The day is observed in mwmory of Massacre of Bengali speaking people who were shot and killed in Bangladesh by the Pakistan Army in 1952. It is also called in the name of Language Martyrs' Day.

February 22: World Thinking Day. The founder of Guides and Scouts, Robert Baden-Powell was born in 1857, February 22. In memory of his birthday, February 22 is celebrated as Thinking Day.

February 28: National Science Day. It was in 28th february, Sir CV Raman published his book, Raman effect and this day is celebrated as National Science Day.

March 21: World Poetry Day. It was from 1999 onwards, Unesco celebrated the Poetry Day.

April 7: World Health Day. It was in 1948, April 7 World Health Organization (WHO) came into existence.

May 11: National Technology Day. India's Second Nuclear Test was experimented in 1998 May 11. In memory of this, May 11 is celebrated as National Technology Day.

May 21: Anti Terrorism Day. Rajiv Gandhi is assasinated in May 21,1991 and May 21 is observed annually as Anti Terrorism Day.

July 1: Doctors Day celebrated in memory of Dr.BC Roy.

July 11: World Population Day. World Population reached 500 crore in 1987, July 11.

August 29: National Sports Day. National Sports Day celebrated in memory of legendary field hockey player Dhyan Chand who born in 29 August 1905.

September 5: Teacher's Day celebrated in the memory Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who born in September 5, 1888.

September 15: Engineers Day. September 15 is celebrated as Engineers Day in memory of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, born on the day in 1860.

October 2: International Ahimsa Day. October 2 is observed as International Ahimsa Day in memory of birth of Mahatma Gandhiji who born in October 2, 1869 in Porbandar district of October 2.

November 14: Children's Day observed annually in the birth day of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He was born in Noverber 14, 1889 and died in 1964.

November 14: November 14 is celebrated as World Diabetes Day which marks the birthday of Frederick Banting.  Dr.Frederick Banting along with Charles Best founded the insulin.

November 19: National Integration Day. The birthday anniversary of Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi is observed as National Integration Day.

December 01: World AIDS Day. Inorder to prevent the spreading of disease AIDS, the health ministers of World Nations held a summit at 1998, December 1. December 1 is observed as AIDS day.

December 10: World Human Rights Day. The UN general declared Human Rights Declaration in 1948, December 10.

December 23: December 23 is observed as World Farmers Day in memory of the birth of Chaudhary Charan Singh. He served as the fifth prime minister of India.
