Jawaharlal Nehru History: Nehru was born in 1889 November 14 at Allahabad. Nehru’s father is Motilal Nehru. Swaroop Rani is the mother of Jawaharlal Nehru. Vijayalakshmi Pandit and Krishna Hutheesing are the sisters. The family house of Nehru is Anand Bhavan. Nehru started his education in Harrow Public School. After that he joined Cambridge Trinity College in London for higher studies and he got Honours Degree. He then got law degree from London in 1910 and thereafter in 1912, he returns back to India. He married Kamala Kaul in 1916. Indhira Priyadarshini is the only daughter of Nehru. She was born in 1917. Both Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru met for first time is during the congress annual meeting held in Lucknow in 1916. Upon inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru entered politics and was arrested upon Khilafat Movement. Nehru joined Dandi March in 1930 and participated in it. Nehru along with his wife kamala was arrested as a result of Dandi March. During the period of 1921 to 1945, Nehru was jailed for almost nine years. Upon Congress meeting in 1929 in Lahore, Nehru became the congress president. Motilal was the earlier president of Congress. National Herald is the newspaper started by Nehru. Upon Indian Independence, Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of India. He is also the lengthiest served prime minister of india. It was in 1964, May 27 Nehru died while serving in the position of PM. The resting place of Nehru after death is Shantivanam. Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding is the award given by Indian Government in honour of Jawaharlal Nehru from 1965 onwards. 25 lakhs is the award amount. U Thant is the first winner of this award. U Thant served as Secretary General of UN and he is also the first Asian to serve as UN Secretary General.
