PSC Class 92: Patriotic Songs of India

1. It was Rabindranath Tagore, who wrote the national anthem of India ‘Janaganamana’. ‘The Morning Song of India’ is its english translation. It was earlier known in the name of ‘Bharat Vidata’. The Anthem was first sang in 1911 during the Kolkata Congress Meeting. The lyrics was in Bengali language.

2. The ‘Janaganamana’ was written in Sankarabharanam music. Current music was given by Captain Ram Singh Thakuri. 52 seconds is the time needed to sing National Anthem.

3. It was Bankim Chandra Chatterjee who wrote the national song of India, ‘Vande Matharam’. The lyrics of this song were published in the work ‘Anandamath’ in 1882. Lyrics was in Sanskrit.

4. Muhammad Iqbal wrote the Nation’s patriotic song ‘Sare Jahamse Acha’. 2005 was its 100th centenary celebration. It was Pandit Ravi Shankar, who had given the music to it.

5. ‘Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram’ was sang by Gandhiji and his followers during the time of Dandi March in 1930. For the song, music was given by Vishnu Digambar Paluskar.

6. It was Narasimha Metta, who wrote the song ‘Vaishnava Janatho’ which is favourite to Gandhiji.

7. The song ‘Varika Varika Sahajare, Sahana Samara Samayamayi’ was written by ‘Amsi Narayana Pillai’, which spread the energy for the participants of Sathyagraha in Kerala.

8. ‘Janaganamana’ as Indian National Anthem and ‘Vande Matharam’ as Indian National Song was approved in 1950, January 24.
